Thought i would let the whole team know a little about our racing to Dublin.
Those of you on facebook would of already seen soon of the photos! On Saturday we raced against 6 other Breast Cancer Survivor Teams, Florence Ladies(Italy) Plureabelle (Dublin)Pool of Life(Liverpool) and 3 other Irish teams. We as usual were very consistant, getting 1.05 in all our 3 races, our season best time. I was sweating a little as a round of Guinness was promised if we managed a 1.02. These great times got us through to the BCS major final against Florence Ladies, Plurabelle and Pool of Life. I knew the Italians and Plurabelle were good but we did not know alot about Pool of Life, Tim also trains them, a lot of the girls race with Amathus and some are GB paddlers, it would of been nice to have beaten them and got a 3rd place but they were strong paddlers and we got a 1.06 in the final. But what a great result, we only had 16 on the boat, 4 great times, just power and strength maybe letting us down.
Sunday we raced in the Womens International 400m, a distance not familar to us, We recorded times of 2.03.60 2.03.05 in absolute pouring rain , and our final race was 2.04.27. Great consistancy again, a great field of paddlers but we came 7th . Our helm in our races said we looked great technically but just lacked the power that the other boats had. 2.03 was an interesting time and it has given Angie and myself food for thought, We raced 200m in 1.05 and 400m in 2.03.
I decided that the time of the 400m should be awarded with a round of Guiness’s for everyone!! Great weekend of racing in some different conditions, good experience for our new ladies who have not raced before. Good socially as well, lots of fun and laughter in true Pink Champagne style. I feel very excited for Pink Champagne as i believe that racing we have stepped up a level and with our winter fitness programme due to start next week i look forward to everyone being stronger for competitions next year, and to really compete with the other teams. Well done everyone on a great successful trip.
